The Oldest House in Mill Valley - Kress Jack at Home

The Reed House on top of the hill in the 1800's.

Home.

I had the lovely opportunity to work with Kress Jack from Kress Jack At Home. Her interior designs are refreshing, modern yet vintage and above all make every room into a comforting environment. Her artistic eye adores color and uses it beautifully whether it be a green door, a striped blue and green wall, or the perfect color of grey!

I asked Kress what inspired her to be an interior designer and she wrote the most genuine response ...

"As for what inspired me to become as Interior Designer, I would say that once I started living on my own, and especially once I started having children, I wanted to create a cozy environment for myself to relax in, and for my children to feel safe,  enveloped in color and unique treasures.  We lived on a pretty tight budget when the girls were younger, so I had to be creative when decorating.  I started going to used furniture stores, vintage boutiques and flea markets to furnish and decorate our homes.  I found that by mixing vintage pieces, splashes of color on the walls, and unique found art, then you could create a magical space that was always evolving, and never boring.  I was always changing rooms around, and the girls would often come home in those days to find their rooms switched around and a new paint color on their walls, all while they were away at school for the day!

At some point I realized I had a knack for creating a unique home, and an eye for color, and so I started putting myself out there for hire.  I have never been professionally trained, but I don't think you need to be if you have the confidence to do what you do well and then seek assistance in the areas that you may be unqualified.  I am proof that if you do what you love, then you will find success, and its really wonderful to see Natasha following that same path - its what I want most for my kids, to love what they do, and find a way to support their passions in life!"

As for the Home we photographed....It's the Oldest in Mill Valley! In the early 1800's Thomas Reed recieved a land grant called Rancho Corte Madera del Presidio. Reed is responsible for giving Mill Valley its name and much of its early businesses and homes. The Reed house is built a top a grassy Knoll of Mill Valley on Manor Terrace Rd. When the Connolly family purchased this home and began construction they discover bodies under the house, one of which is believed to be Thomas Reed himself.

Hope you enjoy the photos!
